YWCA Day at Chautauqua Institution



On Thursday July 26th, spend the day at Chautauqua Institution with your YWCA Community. Attend inspiring lectures throughout the day; come together for lunch and late afternoon tapas with the opportunity to connect with women from across the WNY area and beyond. Program highlights include:

9:15 a.m.                                Rev. Michael-Ray Mathews

An ordained American Baptist minister and a leading pastor in the multi-faith movement for justice, whose ministry is centered on the Theology of Resistance.

10:45 a.m.                              Bari Weiss

Writer and editor for The New York Times opinion section, where she writes about culture and politics. Recently, her columns have covered rising anti-Semitism, the #MeToo movement, and free speech on college campuses.

Noon                                       Lunch & Exploration

Enjoy a beautiful lunch catered by Andriaccio’s on the porch at the Methodist House and take some time to explore the grounds of the Institution

2:00 pm                                Corey D. B. Walker

An ordained American Baptist clergy-person and scholar of African American social, political, and religious thought, Walker preaches and teaches in congregations and universities across the nation and has published broadly on African American religion and philosophy, African American history and culture, and religion and American public life.

3:15 pm                                  Afternoon of Song Recital

Enjoy the sunny ambiance of the Athenaeum Parlor and a view of the lake as you are serenaded with a variety of art songs ranging from the very old to the very new.

7:30pm                                   Opera Invasion

A special performance of Terry Riley’s “In C”, with members of the Music School Festival Orchestra at the Amphitheater Plaza.  

 




$70 ($65 YWCA of Jamestown Members), $35 gate pass holders. Includes all day pass from 7 am to 8 pm and catered lunch. Call 488-2237 for more information. 

CHQ Week 5: The Ethics of Dissent focuses on the obligations of active citizens and cultural critics, the role dissent has played in the development of democracy and how dissent has changed in the forms it takes, how it is responded to, and the rules by which society allows or prohibits it.
